What Is Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced RayKey), a Japanese technique, is one of many healing practices. 'Rei' means Universal and 'Ki' means Life force or Energy that is found in all of us. Reiki is a special kind of healing energy whereas a trained Practitioner acts as a conduit. As a Practitioner, I don't use my own energy, but I work with the Ki within each of us to support your natural restoration.
Reiki, like a massage therapy, facilitates deep relaxation and pain reduction. Like acupuncture, it works at an energetic level to address the root cause of illness and distress. Many people have seen great results with Reiki which is often used in tandem with traditional medical treatments. Reiki is safe but is not a substitute for professional medical care or diagnosis.
Why is YOUR ENERGY Important?
The body is a collection of electromagnetic fields. Solid tissue is actually a mass of cells made up of chemical substances that are collections of atoms. Reiki makes contact to or stimulates the energy pathway, sending healing energy to circulate to all parts of the body.
When you are stressed out, your body is constantly releasing adrenaline and cortisol which can wreak havoc on your body and mind, especially over a prolonged period of time, leading to disease. When adrenaline and cortisol are continually being released in your body it can affect various systems: for example your immunity will be affected allowing constant fatigue and decreasing your body’s ability to fight off colds or infections. It suppresses the digestive system causing digestive issues and inhibits your ability to remove toxins.
Reiki allows your body’s own natural self-healing response to take over when you are in a state of deep relaxation. It does this by bringing your body out of sympathetic mode, your stress response (fight or flight), and brings you back into parasympathetic mode (rest and digest).
A Typical Reiki Experience
My Reiki sessions begin with a brief discussion regarding any physical, mental or emotional challenges a client may be experiencing. Reiki clients are fully clothed and usually treated on a massage table or seated. I recommend wearing or bring a pair of socks to a session.
Reiki energy is applied by placing hands on or just above specific areas of the client. This is done with respect to the recipient's body and personal space by asking if a client is comfortable with specific hand positions.
Some Things Clients Experience During A Session
- Some fall asleep
- Some feel warmth, cold or a tingling sensation from the Reiki energy. The Reiki energy goes the area of the body that needs it the most. So a client may feel these sensations in one area (like the back) even though I may be working in another area (like the leg).
- Gurgling and sounds from your stomach
- Most experience a reduction in pain or sometimes an elimination of the pain in first session. Often more than one session is needed to address chronic conditions.
